Audi A8 2022 Facelift – Review Engine, Interior and Specs

Audi A8 2022 facelift. The Audi A8 flagship sedan received styling changes for 2022, including a new grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, redesigned exterior lighting elements, and updated wheel designs.

An S-line exterior display package is also now available, which reminds the A8 a bit more of the performance-oriented S8 model.

Engine, transmission, and power

The Base 55 TFSI comes with a 335 hp V6 turbo engine and the TFSI 60 has a 453 hp bi-turbo V8 engine. Both versions use a 48-volt hybrid system. An eight-speed automatic transmission equipped with all-wheel drive is standard.

The plug-in 60 TFSI e Hybrid connects the V-6 engine to the electric performance and the 14.1 kWh battery is stored at the rear. The Audi A8 TFSI e 2021 has an output of 443 hp.

So far we have only tested the V-6 55 TFSI version on our test track, which can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.

Of the luxury six-cylinder sedans, the Audi A8 is the size of the Mercedes-Benz S450, a few decades faster than the BMW 740i.

The Audi engine runs smoothly, but there is no fanfare for power development and the noise-dampening levels are so wide that they are practically inaudible.

The Audi A8 2022 facelift offers a very Audi-like mixture of sportiness and driving comfort. Adjustable air suspension and adaptive dampers that can be adjusted by the driver are standard.

Optional with the V-8 is a more advanced active suspension that scans the road in front of you for bumps and takes action to level them out.

With a basic chassis, the Audi A8 isolates you from uneven road surfaces, but also comes through the back streets in a bad mood.

Fuel consumption and MPG

The EPA estimates the standard six-cylinder sedan A8 will hit 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway in 2022.

We also weren’t able to evaluate the real-world MPG for any of these Audi A8 2022 facelift models until we drove them at 75 mph on the fuel-efficient freeway routes that were part of our extensive testing program. For more information on the A8’s fuel economy, please visit the EPA website.

Audi A8 2022 Interior

The imposing passenger seat is a feature of the Audi A8 and the long wheelbase offers comfortable rear passengers.

Five-seater seating is standard, but the optional four-seater package eliminates the center rear seat and offers two electrically adjustable rear seats with heating, ventilation, and massage.

As well as a heated foot massage function and a dedicated pair of entertainment tablets (while power settings for the front passenger seat reduced to the space to create all that).

Fine materials abound, and you can order long bark and wood inlays that match the woods. But like the Audi A8 exterior, the interior is quiet and not as luxurious as the Mercedes S-Class. The modest trunk volume for a large luxury sedan is just 13 cubic feet.

Infotainment and connectivity

Audi A8 outstanding 12.3-inch virtual cockpit instrument is also part of the standard equipment, as are 10.1-inch upper and lower 8.6-inch haptic center screens with an MMI touch response system.

There is a single volume control for the audio system as most of the functions are controlled via the touchscreen.

It can be overwhelming at first, but the system is responsive and highly configurable, allowing owners to choose their own custom buttons on the bottom screen while offering permanent buttons for navigation, weather, phone functions, and radio on the top left of the screen.

Be sure to use the supplied microfiber cloth when attempting to remove fingerprints. On the front, there are two USB ports with combined data and charging functions, and the integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay phones, as well as Amazon Alexa compatibility, are standard. WiFi via Audi Connect Plus is available for an additional subscription fee.
