2023 Mazda CX 70 Review: Price, Specs, and More

2023 mazda cx 70

Mazda is adding a new two-row mid-size SUV called the 2023 Mazda CX 70 to its lineup. It is anticipated to be more opulent than the brand’s smaller CX-5 and CX-50 SUVs, which ride on a new platform.

An inline-six engine with a 48-volt hybrid system, similar to the powertrains found in many BMW and Mercedes vehicles, is expected to be available as a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

We expect the Mazda CX 70 to resemble the Europe-market CX-60 but have a larger body than the CX-60, which Mazda has not yet revealed. It will have more interior room than the CX-5 and will be made of high-end materials.

What’s New?

Between the compact Mazda CX-50 and the three-row CX-9, the Mazda CX 70 is an all-new SUV. Mazda is updating its line of crossovers, with another new model called the Mazda CX 90 set to arrive soon.

What Will the CX-70 Look Like?

The Mazda CX 70 will be a two-row SUV, according to Mazda, although little is known about its dimensions and position.

Mazda claims that the CX-90 will take the position of the CX-9 as its three-row crossover, and we believe that the CX-50 may eventually replace it.

The CX-70 may be a midsize SUV comparable to the Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Toyota Venza, leaving room for that.

Mazda’s graceful design approach is emphasized by the Mazda CX 70, which could be a fastback with a dramatic sloping roof.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

We expect the Mazda CX 70 will come with either a 48-volt hybrid system or a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, and we believe it will come with an inline-six gasoline engine.

The inline-six will put its power into an eight-speed automatic transmission, which may deliver upwards of 300 horsepower.

The Mazda CX-60, which has a combined output of 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque and claims an electric driving range of 39 miles, is expected to share its powertrain with the plug-in hybrid model.

Mazda’s new platform, which has a longitudinal engine layout and theoretically may allow both rears- and all-wheel drive, is underneath the Mazda CX 70. All CX-70s will come standard with the latter.

When compared to mainstream SUVs, which use front-drive-based transverse-engine platforms, this arrangement attempts to offer handling, performance, and refinement more akin to BMW and Mercedes luxury SUVs.

The Mazda CX 70 may also have the front-to-front proportions of pricier rear-wheel luxury vehicles, thanks to its design flexibility.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Mazda CX 70 will be a five-passenger model with two rows of seats. The CX-70 will feature a nicer cabin than many similarly priced competitors to go with its more premium lean.

The Mazda CX 60 will offer sophisticated materials like woven textiles, Nappa leather, and wood trim, which will give the interior a sleek look.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Mazda CX 70 is expected to have a 10.3-inch infotainment screen and be operated by a rotating knob on the center console, similar to that seen in other Mazda vehicles.

Standard equipment should include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone linking abilities.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Mazda CX 70 will most likely come equipped with a variety of driver-assistance functions, as do most Mazda vehicles.

The following key safety features are likely to be included:

  • Standard automatic emergency braking
  • Standard lane departure warning and lane-keep assist
  • Standard blind-spot monitoring
