Mazda 6 2019 Review – For 2019, the six-speed manual gearbox is no longer offered, which is a shame.

On the other hand, when Mazda released it, Mazda also gave G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus), a system designed to improve the handling of the 6.

Which is now standard equipment across all trims, as is the i-Activsense range of driver aids. For vehicles with an optional turbocharged engine, Mazda has also installed larger front brakes.

Mazda’s dedication to making athletic handling a trademark of its 6 sedans is admirable, however, it comes at a cost: Most competitors provide a more cushioned and comfortable ride.

Furthermore, since the 6 isn’t available in a hybrid version, you’ll have to go elsewhere for the greatest fuel economy.

Despite this, we believe the 2019 Mazda 6 achieves a superb blend of style, performance, and refinement.

What’s New for the 2019 Mazda 6?

2019 mazda 6

For the third time in five model years, the Mazda 6 receives a facelift. The most obvious enhancements include a new exterior design, upgraded interiors, and an extra engine option.

The Mazda 6 new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which sits above the non-turbo 2.5-liter four, features cylinder deactivation and a modest increase in horsepower and torque.

Mazda went even further by retuning the chassis and decreasing interior noise levels, despite these improvements being significant.

A top-of-the-line Signature model and a new Grand Touring Reserve trim are also part of the lineup. The latter comes equipped with a lengthy list of desired standard characteristics, as well as rich leather.

Pricing, and Trim Levels

The 2019 Mazda 6 Sport has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Starting Price (MSRP) of $23,000, plus a $920 Destination Fee. The base model is $27,320, while the Grand Touring Reserve variant is $3,420.

The Touring model includes 19-inch wheels, fake leather seats, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, entry passive parking assist, and more driver-assist features.

Engine Performance

The 2019 Mazda 6 lineup is the only one among its mid-size rivals that do not include a hybrid or plug-in powertrain.

Instead, there are two 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines, one of which is turbocharged and the other of which pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Both of which we recently tested and the Mazda 6 was among the slowest in terms of acceleration times from zero to 60 mph and at a variety of speeds between 50 and 70 mph.

The 2019 Mazda 6 provides more than typical driving fun for a family car with fluidity to its controls and handling that is uncommon at any price point.

Mazda manages to provide the thrills while preserving refinement and ride quality. In this league, it’s still the most comfortable car to drive. Do not assume that because I am female, I am weak.

Fuel Economy

How good is the fuel economy? Both of the Mazda 6’s four-cylinder engines have EPA ratings that are competitive.

The turbo version managed 36 mpg during our actual-world highway fuel consumption test, 5 mpg better than its EPA claimed, which is even more astounding.

The Mazda 6, which has the lowest engine we’ve tested to date, managed 37 mpg, 2 mpg better than its EPA highway rating.

Interior, and Comfort

mazda 6 2019 interior

Apart from a few minor annoyances with the way some of the interior controls work, the Mazda 6 cabin is first-rate and best in class.

If you weren’t given the context that it’s from, well, you’d be forgiven for thinking it belonged in a much pricier car.

Mazda’s infotainment system has the tactility and visual punch to impress, with the dashtop display doubling as a touchscreen.

Although one that only works when the car is stationary, as satisfying and easy to use as that knob is. The menus it commands aren’t as intuitive as they could be.

Our only complaint is that the Mazda 6 is no less practical than other mid-size vehicles, with the six carry-on bags we can fit in the trunk and the 17 carry-on bags we can fit in the trunk and interior with the rear seats folded to position it at the forefront of its class.

One must first walk around to the trunk, open it, and pull the release handles for the seatbacks located there before one can fold the rear seats from within the vehicle.

However, once they’re folded, one must again walk back to the rear doors and push them flat.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Mazda 6 2019 offers a slew of technological features. Mazda’s driver-assist features are standard on all 2019 models.

The infotainment system, voice control, and various features (map navigation and head-up display) all work properly on the top trims.

Audio & navigation 7.0: Mazda’s hard-drive-based navigation system, which includes voice control and a steering wheel controller.

Works well with nonintuitive features like menu-based zooming and panning when in map mode. The Bose audio system delivers high-fidelity sound but favors low and midrange frequencies.

Smartphone integration 7.0: The Mazda 6 has a front-mounted USB port and Bluetooth streaming and phone support.

Which is about all it has going for it, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on Touring and higher trim models.

Driver aids 8.0: With adaptive cruise control, the Mazda 6 may be stopped and switched between automatic and manual modes.

The head-up display shows the driver the status of adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, lane departure warning, and front crash prevention, giving him or her additional situational awareness.

Voice control 8.0: As long as you follow the on-screen instructions, the integrated voice control allows you to perform phone operations, navigation, and audio system adjustments.

Safety

The 2019 Mazda 6 received a five-star crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the most current version a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

The Mazda6 comes equipped with some basic driver-assistance functions, as well as i-Activsense, Mazda’s suite of active safety stuff.

Which includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with adaptive cruise control. Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus is standard this year as well.

The Touring trim, which adds amenities to the car, is worth considering. Gray-painted 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, proximity keyless entry, automatic wipers, and automatic high beams.

Simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration are all available here.

The center console features additional vents, as well as two USB charging ports and a center armrest.

Mazda 6 Grand Touring

The Grand Touring variant comes standard with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower (227 horsepower with non-premium gasoline and 310 pound-foot of torque).

The infotainment system gets even more power thanks to its 11-speaker stereo and satellite radio.

Auto-dimming rearview and driver-side mirrors are standard on the S60 model, in addition to heated side mirrors.

Mazda 6 Grand Touring Reserve

The Grand Touring Reserve stands out from the rest of the line with its upgraded LED lighting, silver-painted 19-inch wheels, and rear spoiler.

Among the driver-seat comfort, upgrades are a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable front passenger seat, and driver-seat memory functions.

Leather seats are standard on the front row, while rear-row heating and ventilation are available.

The gauge cluster is encased in a transparent panel that serves as a heads-up display, displaying traffic signals and your current velocity.

Mazda 6 Signature

The fully loaded Signature trim level primarily improves the look and feel of the interior, with the addition of a gunmetal front grille.

Higher-quality materials, including microfiber suede, wood, dazzling silver finishes on several controls, and better leather, are among the features you’ll find on this SUV.

A digital gauge cluster, a surround-view camera system with front and back parking sensors, and a navigation system are among the other feature upgrades.
