BMW 5-Series is updated for 2021 with a new look
The BMW 5 Series is being updated for a major, albeit modest, facelift to steal the show from the Mercedes E-Class. and a fresh Audi A6. The product range, which will be launched on the market as the 2021 model in mid-2020, again consists of the 248-hp 530i, 335-hp-540i, 523-hp-M550i, and 288-hp plug-in hybrid 530e.
All models will continue to be available with an all-wheel-drive or xDrive. with the exception of the AWD-only M550i xDrive. The more powerful M5 will be updated in the not too distant future to reflect the changes to this more pedestrian-friendly 5 Series model.
At first glance, this Series 5 facelift looks angular and a little wilder, its LED headlights show sharp folds. The distinctive radiator grille is also clearer, and although the headlights have an L-shaped headlight element, this element has now disappeared from the taillights. The exhaust pipes now all look the same regardless of the engine – stick to the badge!
The lineup remains the same and includes the plug-in hybrid models 530i, 540i, M550i, and 530e.
Higher and wider, BMW 5-Series the new kidneys emphasizes the relationship with the 7 and X7 series without emphasizing the dominant show. The side view retains the line of curious characters that transform into C-pillars. And the M550i is still treated with bronze-colored trim. Overall, we liked the new look, and the 5 Series still looks more agile and sporty than the beefier competition.
Inside, the visual changes are simple, with the new contrast stitching being the most notable improvement. Driver assistance and infotainment systems have improved significantly, however, with new cloud-based maps and a host of other options that do their best to distract you and potentially save you from the consequences of the distraction.
While the 530i turbocharged engine remains unchanged.
The six-row 540i powerplant is a 48-volt hybrid system capable of offering a slight power boost to compensate for any turbo drift. It should also improve fuel consumption and mitigate the automatic start and stop system.
Powered by a converted version of the 4-Bang 530i, the 530e plug-in hybrid gets a big boost from the 107hp electric motor built into its eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The updated range starts at $ 55,195 for the 5,530i sedan, $ 58,195 for the 530e hybrid, $ 60,445 for the 540i and $ 77,795 for the M550i xDrive.
