2021 Lincoln Corsair Review: More Than Just a Ford Escape

The 2021 Lincoln Corsair  was introduced last year as a replacement for the smaller MKC crossover, the Lincoln Corsair shares many basic designs with the Ford Escape.

However, than the Lincoln, the Corsair offers a more luxurious look and better interior materials.

It also has some cool tech features like the ability to use your phone as an SUV key and an upgraded 295hp four-cylinder engine that isn’t available on the Escape.

In 2021, Corsair will remain largely unchanged. However, a new version of the plug-in hybrid powertrain will arrive later in 2021.

This plug-in hybrid Corsair is only available in Grand Touring equipment and should offer around 40 kilometers of pure electric power before switching to regular hybrid operation.

The cheapest way to own Lincoln, the 2021 Corsair is priced and packaged to compete with other premium brands’ ultra-small and small SUVs.

Lincoln Corsair 2021 Price

Entering the market last year, Corsair replaces the MKC at Lincoln. As we know, Lincoln is the luxurious version of Ford and several models use common platforms.

The Corsair is no exception and shares many elements with the Lincoln Corsair vs Ford Escape. Of course, as with all Lincoln products, finish, quality and luxury come together with the Corsair.

The manufacturer has chosen to simplify the list of its models. It has only one sedan, the MKZ (2021 model on the Lincoln Canada site), and all of its other vehicles are SUVs.

The Corsair is the smallest utility in the Lincoln lineup, followed by the Nautilus, the Aviator, and the super-luxurious and gigantic Navigator.

Lincoln is synonymous with luxury, and the Corsair has the merit of letting us enter this world for, initially, an amount of $ 45,200. We drove the Reserve version of the 2021 Lincoln Corsair, which was priced at $65,950.

There is a substantial difference in price here and consumers will need to think about what they consider to be really essential before choosing a version.

Exterior

The differences between the MKC and the Corsair are minimal. First of all, they are almost identical in size, the Corsair being slightly larger than its predecessor.

At the front, we find the same grille and the same type of headlight, although both elements have been very slightly redesigned.

Honestly, the Corsair has been on the market for two years now, and we have a hard time differentiating it from an MKC on the road. One small detail, however, is that the Corsair looks a bit like a Lincoln Aviator.

Well, you have to know what a Lincoln Aviator next-generation looks like, but the compact SUV has at least kept the elegance that characterizes its big brother.

At the back, the same story. Apart from a few details, it is very difficult to tell the MKC apart from the Corsair.

However, it may be noted that the Lincoln logo is positioned a little higher up and the rear light signature has been slightly modified.

Finally, in the Corsair, the bezel covers the entire rear part. These are the big changes that have been made with this new model.

Lincoln Corsair 2021 Interior

Fortunately, there are a lot of differences here between the good old MKC and this new Corsair. As we noted above, the Corsair is very similar to the Aviator, and on the inside, it’s even truer.

Unlike the MKC, which had a cabin that was too Ford-inspired for my taste, the Corsair exudes luxury and comfort, and the controls are all accessible through buttons installed on the console.

Our Reserve test model featured the optional Perfect Position seats. These allow you to customize the seat in 24 different ways, including a separate adjustment of the thigh rests. With the massage functions, it feels like a Navigator!

In the back, there is enough room to accommodate three adults. The comfort, however, is less phenomenal than before.

It should also be noted that with the Corsair, the rear 60/40 seats slide out to provide more room for bulky items in the trunk.

Driving safety

Behind the wheel of the 2021 Corsair, you’re sure to find serenity in comfort. Standard safety features such as Collision Assist with automatic emergency braking, reverse camera, and Collision SOS Po warning system are available on both equipment variants.

Other safety features of standard Corsair and spare equipment include blind-spot detection with a crowd warning system and lane guarding. Overall, the driving of the Corsair is marked by comfort.

Without being a thunderbolt, it knows how to transport its occupants in the greatest comfort and the greatest silence, in short, what is expected of a luxurious product.

Keep in mind, however, that our test model came with optional adaptive suspension. This system uses sensors that monitor the movement of the suspension, body, steering wheel, and brakes, all to adapt the level of suspension to milliseconds.

In reality, this suspension is impressive in its efficiency. It really absorbs all the imperfections of the road to restore maximum comfort in the passenger compartment.

Unfortunately, we were unable to test a model without this suspension. We will therefore not be able to comment on the driving experience in a Corsair equipped with the basic settings.

Onboard and Technology

The Corsair is equipped with the SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen and two USB ports. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are installed in all versions.

There’s also an optional wireless charger, but it’s in the center console. This location is not ideal as it is difficult to access.

Optionally, the phone can also be used as a key with the Lincoln Way app. Your device thus serves as a key and can also be used to start the vehicle remotely.

On the security side, the Co-Pilot 360 technology package with five route guidance functions is included as standard with all Corsairs.

These features include blind-spot detection with cross-traffic warning, pre-collision assistance with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, reversing camera, and automatic high beam.

With a little more, you can add windshield wipers with rain sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane centering and speed signal detection, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors.

We can go on and on with many of the options available with this vehicle. You will understand that you can make your Corsair very luxurious, but expect to pay the price.

Lincoln Corsair Engine Horsepower

The base model is a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbo engine with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

We couldn’t test this engine as our test model used the 2.3 liters, 4 cylinder turbo engine that developed 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

There isn’t a huge difference in performance between the two mechanics. They are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that does an admirable job.

During our testing week, we were also able to test the four-wheel drive. The vehicle, equipped with good winter tires, offers all the comfort and safety needed when traveling.

The system seamlessly alternates between front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. In addition, the driver can choose from five driving settings, normal, exciting, preserved, slippery, and deep state.

Conclusion

The Lincoln Corsair, equipped like our test model, offers a lot of comforts and can easily take on the BMW X3 vs Audi Q3 of this world.

We were delighted with the adaptable chassis as it absorbs all the bumps in the road. And the 2.3-liter engine isn’t stingy when it comes to performance; When you hit the gas hard, it reacts!

The only thing that left us cold was the total price of our vehicle. At $65,950 it’s our turn. At this price, we can undoubtedly go back to German models.

However, the base model for $44,700 is more recommended for us, especially if you want to get into the world of Lincoln.
