The news about the technology behind the Mazda RX9 seems to have surfaced again. T’s Media of Tokyo has discovered a new Mazda sports car which has found a patent in the form of a car propulsion system with the following formula: Rotary engine, capacitor, small electric motor, and hybrid AWD.
The small electric motor shown in the patent is embedded in the front axle and is fed by a capacitor and a small lithium-ion battery with only 3.5 kWh.
Mazda is working on a new 6-cylinder in-line engine, but as far as we can remember, Mazda does not yet have a street-legal V-engine product.
Perhaps Mazda filed for this patent just in case, especially since they are working on a number of new products like the new Mazda 6.
In all fairness, if the Mazda RX9 uses this rotary hybrid technology, it will bring a new color to the sports car scene.

A Radical Approach To Compression and RPM Limits
The Mazda RX-9 is a formidable car: It has 4,000 pounds of downforce, 1.3 horsepower per pound of weight, nearly nine times more power than a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, and a redline of 9,000 rpm.
The last bit is noteworthy because it’s at the point in the test drive when most combustion engines are making a noise like nails on a chalkboard.
Mazda doesn’t seem worried about that, because it didn’t design its new supercar with a conventional internal combustion engine. We cannot say that they made what we believe might be one of the most advanced rotary engines.
Mazda Joins The Turbo Era

Will Mazda Put It Into Production?
