Despite already being overweight, Sly soon developed a life-threatening addiction to sleeping pills, which added another 60 pounds (27 kg) to his now 280-pound (130 kg) frame.

By 1990 he had ballooned up to 320 pounds (145 kg), and his addiction was going out of control.
